Masjid Fatimah Rarotonga: Cook Islands has its first mosque

Masjid Fatimah Rarotonga, nestled within a family home in Titikaveka on the south-east side of Rarotonga, has quietly served the Muslim community since 2018 as the Cook Islands’ first and only mosque — a place of prayer, peace, and reflection for Muslims living in and visiting Rarotonga.

Under the Cook Islands Constitution, every person has the freedom to practice their faith. While churches are established through the Religious Authority Council (RAC), the mosque continues to provide a welcoming spiritual space for a growing and diverse Muslim community.

Today, the mosque brings together Muslims from many backgrounds, including Indonesians, Filipinos, Fijians, Indians, and Cook Islanders, reflecting the multicultural harmony and inclusiveness of the Cook Islands.
